Sigmar Polke
Those early works by Sigmar Polke, the artist produced during his new talent period, are introduced by Sal. Oppenheim.
Sigmar Polke is born in Oels in Silesia in 1941. In 1945 the family flees to Thuringia, and from there on moves to Berlin in 1953 and finally on to Düsseldorf. From 1959 to 1960 he completes an apprenticeship as glass painter and begins to study at the Arts Academy Düsseldorf under Karl Otto Götz and Gerhard Hoehme. Sigmar Polke died in Cologne in 2010.
