Mevlana Lipp examines the subjective perception as a detached part of the natural whole in his artistic work. Playfully as much as critically he questions the notional construct "individual" with its sentimental and egocentric awareness of the objective environment.

The romantic idea of a curative refuge in nature becomes unmasked as ancient and obsolescent. In fact, the contemporary individual moves like an alien across Planet Earth and is restricted to a dense observation of flora and fauna by a plasma screen.

Lipp studies the discrepant condition between subject and object, between consciousness and unconsciousness, between human and nature. In his latest works he develops virtuosic reliefs, which demonstrate the advanced human alienation, as well as the artificial deformation of nature by the intrusion of civilization. Thus, he preferentially uses materials which refer to wood; such as MDF, coated worktops, plywood or veneer.

As a result these aesthetic reliefs remind the viewer of the melancholic beauty of a brief look through a window on a field, or a plant. Tragically, but never humourless, Mevlana Lipp points to the bygone state, in which we were one with nature, but at the same time he emphasizes the acute and absurd irretrievability of the natural whole. "Post-romantically", his work reminds us of our native condition and nevertheless rejects us as presently extraterrestrial.
